Books in the ParkOur latest production is an audio podcast in two parts, commissioned by Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council.

Last June, the Library Service of Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council got together with the Public Parks section to organise a novel event to promote reading in the area. The result was “Books in the Park”, held in Cabinteely Park, and it was a great success.

Face painters and jugglers added to the festive atmosphere, and there was also the added attraction of the recently renovated Cabinteely House.

But the focus of the day was books, and the people who write them and read them. 10 local writers were invited to read, offer advice and sign copies of their work. One end of the garden was set aside for the childrens authors, and one for the adults.

Edgecast Media has produced two podcasts from the days events. Episode 1, The Children’s Corner, is now available on the Dun Laoghaire Rathdown library website (or click on the player at the top of this post). It features children’s authors Don Conroy, Joe O’Brien, Oisín McGann, Aisling O’Loughlin and Derek Landy.

Part 2 will be published next week.

Congratulations Conn it sounds teriffic - I’m really proud to have been associated (in a minor way) with this and I really hope DLRCC continues to produce podcasts…talk about extending the reach!

      Fantastic Conn,

Really well produced. Particularly like the intro and music stings to get us from A to B.

      This should be on radio.

Thanks Annette and Michael. The contributions of the authors is what makes these podcasts special. It’s pure imagination! Audio is the perfect medium.

Regarding radio, I’d love to see it broadcast. It belongs to Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council, so that’s up to them, but I think this kind of content is suitable for all kinds of channels.

Thanks to all at edgecast for this great podcast - it sounds great and I’m delighted to be one of the authors involved. Thanks to Conn and his team for a most enjoyable and pain free day and a great podcast at the end of it!
Hope the library decides to do another one at next year’s event too!
      Best, Sarah Webb
