Last week on the Small Business Show we interviewed motivation expert Brian Moore. He explained how fear can inhibit success, and how we can overcome that.

After the radio interview, we got out the video camera, as Brian demonstrated one of his techniques with presenter Kehlan Kirwan

I’ve worked in radio for over 20 years. It’s true that “the pictures are better”! Sometimes video is superfluous and distracting.

And sometimes video is essential. Radio would not have captured the expression seen on Kehlan’s face in the above video.

As a result, they’ve seen their products nominated for an award from Engineers Ireland, and they’ve been able to repatriate some manufacturing operations from China back to Ireland.

Michele Neylon and Conn Ó Muíneacháin have launched Technology.ie , a weekly podcast focusing on what they know best – the tech industry.

The podcast, which has been in the works for some time is collaboration between Neylon who is the founding director of Irish registrar and hosting company, Blacknight and Ó Muíneacháin of EdgeCast Media, a radio and digital media production company. Both gentlemen are well known in the Irish Internet and technology communities.

MissionV Investment Pitch

We’ve written about MissionV here before. They are a new startup working to bring immersive, game-based learning technology to schools. Currently running a pilot in 20 schools, they are looking for investment to take their programme to the next level. So they commisioned us to produce a video of their investor pitch.

Ar Strae sa tSaotharlann - Irish Language Science Series

One of our major productions over the past year was Ar Strae sa tSaotharlann, a 15-part weekly half hour radio programme, commisioned by RTÉ Raidio na Gaeltachta and broadcast over the last 4 months of 2010.

Following in the footsteps of our 2008 series Eureka!, Ar Strae sa tSaotharlann was produced by Conn Ó Muíneacháin, and co-presented by Conn with Risteard Ó Coisdealbha. Science and environmental issues were presented in an engaging and informal way, aimed at younger listeners in particular.

Freisin thugamar cuairt ar ghnólachtaí agus ar áiteanna eile ina raibh an eolaíocht á cur i bhfeidhm sa ghnáthshaol. A Fez and a Cloak

Since the release of James Cameron’s film, the word ‘avatar’ is on everyones lips. The original Hindu word refers to the physical incarnation of a deity in this world. Its modern usage in computer systems is quite similar, except that the avatar is a virtual world representation of the physical person.

In MissionV, users have full control over the appearance of their avatars. Some level of customisation is required so that users can distinguish between individuals. After that, how far will creativity take you?

MissionV is a new company working to bring game-based learning to schools using virtual worlds technology. They’ve just completed their first pilot at Gaelscoil Eoghain Uí Thuairisc in Carlow. Phase 2 commences in September with a roll-out to 20 schools and a project for Science Week 2011.

This is the first in a series of videos Edgecast Media is producing for MissionV.

Startups and Greyhounds

It was Gerry Moan’s idea to unveil the 5 startups he’s been hot-housing at SmartStart, at an event for investors in a corporate suite at Shelbourne Park Greyhound Stadium last night. “Entrepreneurship is about having a punt”, he said, and the whole idea was to celebrate the spirit of adventure shared by startup founders and investors alike.

Our latest production is for FocuSMEIreland.com, the business resource dedicated to Small and Medium Enterprises. FocuSME’s Editor Kehlan Kirwan presents a weekly audio podcast with news and information for the SME community. The show is produced and co-presented by Edgecast Media’s Conn Ó Muíneacháin.

The Small Business Show is an integral part of FocuSME’s content, but it also stands by itself. Produced in a 2-part half-hour radio format, the show is designed for broadcast syndication as well as podcasting. It engages users where a website cannot reach: away from the screen, behind the wheel, between the ears.

Episode 3 reports on Limerick Open Coffee Club and features an interview with John Breslin of New Tech Post.

The next episode is on Friday 22 July with special guest Gerry Moan of SmartStart.ie, an investment and mentoring programme for early-stage startups.
