  • Leaving Less to the Imagination

    By Conn Ó Muíneacháin | November 24, 2011

Last week on the Small Business Show we interviewed motivation expert Brian Moore. He explained how fear can inhibit success, and how we can overcome that.

After the radio interview, we got out the video camera, as Brian demonstrated one of his techniques with presenter Kehlan Kirwan

I’ve worked in radio for over 20 years. It’s true that “the pictures are better”! Sometimes video is superfluous and distracting.

And sometimes video is essential. Radio would not have captured the expression seen on Kehlan’s face in the above video.

Big ideas are centre stage on this week’s Small Business Show, from Irish researchers developing innovative cancer treatments, to the Galway Medical Engineering firm whose patents set it apart from the crowd.

Social Media Expert Pat Carroll of Touch Communications joins us to review the news and talk about last week’s Dublin Web Summit.  And the summit organiser, Paddy Cosgrave, explains why networking is so important in Silicon Valley’s culture of success.

Edel Mee of EmbraceIT explains what SMEs need to know about IT Security.

FocuSME’s editor, Kehlan Kirwan, travels to Galway for this week’s company focus.  Research and Development are at the core of Aerogen’s development of patented nebuliser technology.  As a result, they’ve seen their products nominated for an award from Engineers Ireland, and they’ve been able to repatriate some manufacturing operations from China back to Ireland.

The Small Business Show is syndicated weekly on Irish radio and podcast each Friday on FocuSMEIreland.com.  You can subscribe for free to download the MP3s automatically using RSS or iTunes.

Conn Ó Muíneacháin agus Risteard Ó CoisdealbhaOne of our major productions over the past year was Ar Strae sa tSaotharlann, a 15-part weekly half hour radio programme, commisioned by RTÉ Raidio na Gaeltachta and broadcast over the last 4 months of 2010.

Following in the footsteps of our 2008 series Eureka!, Ar Strae sa tSaotharlann was produced by Conn Ó Muíneacháin, and co-presented by Conn with Risteard Ó Coisdealbha. Science and environmental issues were presented in an engaging and informal way, aimed at younger listeners in particular.

RTÉ Raidio na GaeltachtaThaistealaíomar an tír ag labhairt le saineolaithe in ollscoileanna agus in institiúidí taighde. Freisin thugamar cuairt ar ghnólachtaí agus ar áiteanna eile ina raibh an eolaíocht á cur i bhfeidhm sa ghnáthshaol. Agus dhíríomar an micreafón ar na heolaithe féin, á gceistiú faoina saol oibre agus faoin slí bheatha atá roghnaithe acu.

Cé go bhfuil an tsraith craolta, tá gach aon chlár ar fáil i gconaí mar phodchraoladh.
